CAF Medical Personnel Storm Nigeria’s Camp

The Super Eagles’ programme took a different turn on Thursday, as a medical crew from Confederation of African Football (CAF) stepped in to conduct mandaory tests on the players.

The CAF officials took  care to check all the players, as part of steps to ensure all participants at the upcoming continental soccer showpiece are healthy and in peak physical shape during the championship in Egypt.

The medical checks were not only meant to see if the Eagles’ playersd are in peak shape, but also to watch out for any instances of drug use or prersence of perfromance enhancing stimulants among any in camp.

Eagles’ media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, however, assured that there is no cause for alarm, and stressed that the CAF inspection is a normal process heading into any major international championship.

An official statement by the continental body states: “The Development of Football Medicine at CAF is aimed at increasing the pool of personnel trained in Sports Science and Medicine.

“(This is) through educational programs and to provide comprehensive professional health care to all players at all levels in Africa.

“In addition, one of CAF Sport Medicine Committee’s responsibilities is to ensure that appropriate medical care is in place as per established FIFA standards during training and tournaments.

“Finally, CAF encourages research as a tool for development and to fight against doping in football through awareness and controls.”
