CAFCC: Rivers United Prepares For Motema Pembe Clash, As Eguma Bemoans Fixture Congestion

Date:

The management, players and coaching staff of Rivers United have quickly shifted their focus to continental duties, where they have Daring Club Motema Pembe of DR Congo waiting for them, on Matchday 4 of the 2022/23 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

The first leg of the tie played in Luanda, capital of neighbouring Angola ended 1-0 in favour of a 10-man Rivers United, for whom Ghanaian import, Paul Acquah scored the only goal of the Matchday-3 clash in the 53rd min, and sent the reigning NPFL Champions to the top of Group B, with 6 points, 2 points clear of Diables Noirs of Congo Brazzaville and ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire who are jointly second, but separated by goals difference.

To warm up for Wednesday’s encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Pride of Rivers on Saturday played out a goalless draw with NPFL side, Abia Warriors of Umuahia, at the Enyimba Stadium, in Aba; to stay 3rd on the log with 15 points and a game in hand against Enugu Rangers in Port Harcourt.

After the domestic game, Head Coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma lamented what he called fixture congestion his team is grappling with, but was upbeat about his side doing the double over Motema Pembe, and negotiating its way out of the Group as fast as possible.

Kick-off on Wednesday has been fixed for 5 pm Nigerian time, while tickets are being sold for Popular Side #200, VIP #500 & #1,000.
