Former Netherlands manager Dick Advocaat has said Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Ajax Amsterdam defender Calvin Bassey needs more time to realize his full potential.
The Nigeria international joined the Dutch league giant last summer from the Scottish premier league side Glasgow Rangers.
Since his arrival, he has been criticized by some club stakeholders and club supporters for his performance but just like the team manager Jon Heitinga, Advocaat too has pleaded for him.
While speaking to the Scottish news outlet, Glasgow times, Advocaat highlighted what needed to be done to help him attain the greater height.
“His manager John Heitinga has pointed out that to get the best out of him, you must have other defenders who can help him out if he loses the ball.
“He’s a good defender first and foremost, Ajax didn’t buy him for his football abilities.”
“He was Rangers’ best player last season.
“So, you can’t say he can’t play football, but he needs time”, he said.
