Reigning Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn ran 12.48 to win the 100m hurdles at the first leg of the 2023 Diamond League meeting held at the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha on Friday.
The 26 year old Puerto Rican was impressive in her first race of the year to leave no one in doubt about her target this year.
USA duo of Alaysha Johnson (12.66) and 2019 World champion, Nia Ali (12.69) came in second and third respectively with Jamaica’s 2021 Olympic bronze medalist, Megan Tapper fourth (12.76).
Speaking in her post race interview, Camacho-Quinn reveals her target is to add the world title to the Olympic title she won in 2021.
‘I feel great, last time I’ve been here was 2019, but I’m back in Doha. This is my third diamond league, the atmosphere is amazing honestlty, it was way different in 2019 I believe, its very exciting to have it here.
‘Im glad I made it through and I have things to work on. There has been a lot of challenges I’m facing this year, so I am going to process each race, It good to be here, Im trying to get my mind back healthy and body back healthy.
‘I’m taking it one race at a time. My goal is obviously the world champion and the gold medal, but also to stay physically and mentally positive. My next race is in Bermuda,’ she said.
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the reigning world champion and record holder (12.12) was not in the race she ran a wind-aided 12.44 to place second behind Kendra Harisson last year.
The Puerto Rican leads 8-6 in head to head races with the Nigerian.
