Champions League: Dessers over work rate against Dynamo Kiev

Philippe Clement, head coach of Scottish Premier League club Rangers, has praised Cyriel Dessers despite the Nigerian attacker missing several scoring opportunities in the team’s draw against Dynamo Kiev in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round.

Though Dessers, who was the club’s top scorer last season, faced criticism for his missed chances, he scored a crucial stoppage-time equalizer away on Tuesday night.

Clement commended Dessers for his resilience and work rate, emphasizing that the striker’s missed chances did not diminish his overall contribution to the game.

“Cyriel kept pushing on to get the goal because he had a few chances that he finished very well and the goalkeeper saved well,” Clement told journalists. “So he kept on believing and I’m happy for him that he scored the goal.

“If you compare him with seven months ago he does much more things good for the team.

” Maybe people have a perception about him, but I know there are no defenders anymore who like to play against him, and he’s only growing, so that’s what we want, the coach said.

Rangers will face Motherwell at home on Saturday in their second game of the season after a goalless draw at Hearts last weekend before facing the Ukrainian side in the return leg at the Ibrox Stadium with a win taking them to the group stage.
