Chelsea sale: Abramovich considering first offer from US billionaire

Date:

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, is reportedly considering the first offer from US billionaire, Todd Boehly, after putting the club up for sale.

Boehly has lodged the first bid to buy Chelsea from Abramovich.

The LA Dodgers part-owner is heading a consortium that also includes Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss and according to the Telegraph, they have officially submitted his offer to New York-based merchant bank, Raine Group.

The sale of Chelsea is being overseen by Raine Group on behalf of Abramovich.

Abramovich is keen to sell his assets in the UK before any sanctions are imposed following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Last week, the 55-year-old confirmed that after 19 years at the helm, he would look to sell Chelsea, claiming that his decision is in “the best interest” of the West London club.

The Russian billionaire is looking for around £3 billion and it is understood there are around ten parties interested in making a bid.

The report added that Boehly and the consortium are yet to hear a response from Abramovich, having hoped to skip the queue by getting in an early offer.

Boehly has a reported net worth of £4.7bn, while Wyss is worth around £3.8bn, meaning the pair would have little issue in raising the kind of capital required to purchase Chelsea from Abramovich.
