The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has deployed troops to strategic locations and major routes across the country, with Special Forces units and air support elements placed on high alert to ensure rapid response during the festive season.

The deployment aims to prevent attacks and safeguard citizens during Christmas and the New Year, the military high command said in a statement released on Sunday by Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations.

According to the statement, aerial surveillance and intelligence operations have been intensified to monitor the movements and communications of suspected criminal groups.

“Unit commanders in all areas have been instructed to strengthen patrols, establish fortified checkpoints, and work closely with community leaders, local vigilante groups, and state security formations,” the DHQ said.

The statement reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that national security remains a top priority. Troops are taking all necessary measures to ensure Nigerians celebrate Christmas in peace, unity, and joy.

The DHQ also called on citizens to cooperate with security agencies, assuring that all reports of suspicious activity will be handled urgently and confidentially.

“Public vigilance remains essential to the success of our operations,” the statement added, urging Nigerians to report any unusual or suspicious activity to the nearest security formation.
