Nigeria dup of Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro have qualified for the women’s long jump final of the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Brume hit the automatic qualification mark, leaping a distance of 6.81m (+0.3) in her second attempt while compatriot Usoro booked her spot in the final, jumping a mark of 6.59m to finish joint 7th overall alongside England’s Abigail Irozuru.
It will be Usoro’s 3rd qualification for final of long jump event major championships this year. Hope has risen for Nigeria to perhaps hit the podium on Sunday when the finals of the long jump event and the 100m hurdles will take place.
Recall that World record holder Tobi Amusan qualified for the final of the women’s 100m hurdles after sailing through in her semi-final heat.
She will be back on Sunday for the final and will hope to defend her 2018 Commonwealth Games title and all eyes will be on her considering her photo-finish at the World Athletics Championship recently in Oregon USA.
