Sporting Lisbon have informed they would be willing to take Cristiano Ronaldo, but only on a free transfer, according to the UK Independent.
Ronaldo spent his early career with the Portuguese club before he joined United in 2003.
His mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, has always dreamed of seeing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner back playing at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, even claiming to have told him: “Son, before I die, I want to see you return to Sporting.”
And now that dream could become a reality, with Sporting keen to re-sign Ronaldo, who’s desperate to play Champions League football.
It is believed they have made contact with United, offering to take him off their hands if United terminate his lucrative contract, meaning they wouldn’t receive a fee.
Having previously ruled out a sale in pre-season, the Red Devils are now debating whether to getting rid of Ronaldo after his behaviour during the early stages of the new campaign.
