Dabiri Meets Nigerian Basketball Talents In Japan

The chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has stated delight her ability to meet up with two young basketball talents from her country during her visit to Japan, and enthused that the duo showed how promising they are in the sport of giants.

Dabiri-Erewa was in The Land of The Rising Sun for this year’s Tokyo International Conference of African Development (TICAD7), which discussed the way forward in developments of trade, economics, culture, security, unity and entertainment for the continent.

While noting that the conference aimed to provide fresh avenues and more opportunities for various aspects of development in Africa, Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that she was happy to meet the Nigerian female basketball youngsters and their coaches, who are part of an ongoing sports scholarship programme in Japan.

Though participation in the conference is only limited to Africans, the summit holds innovative discussion of the development of the African continent by world leading organisations and innovators, which Dabiri-Erewa enthused was a good avenue for her to also talk sports.

While identifying sports as a huge unifying factor in Nigeria, the former television newscaster, presenter, correspondent and ex-member of the House of Representatives took to social media to reveal details of her meeting with the basketball duo, who represented a team of 16, and she also declared how good they are in the game.

Dabiri-Erewa stated: “Was great meeting Endurance and Esther in Tokyo, accompanied by their handlers. Both are part of a group of 16 Nigerian girls on scholarship in Japan, playing basket ball. And they are so so good.”
