Damaged undersea cables: Voice, data services restored — NCC

Date:

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has confirmed that the damaged undersea fibre optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal have been restored to approximately 90% of their peak utilization capacities.

This follows a disruption on March 14, 2024, which affected data and voice services due to cuts in the undersea fibre optics.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, the NCC stated that all affected operators have implemented recovery measures, taking capacity from submarine cables unaffected by the cuts.

As a result, they have managed to recover about 90% of their peak utilization capacities.

The statement further assured that mobile network operators have activated alternative connectivities to ensure that data and voice services operate optimally while awaiting full repairs of the undersea cables.

The NCC expressed gratitude to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre cuts.
