The former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint Nigerian sports jugganut, Chief Bukola Olopade, as the Director General of the National Sports Commission.
Daniel noted that, as Ogun State governor, its was his uplifting of Olopade as Commissioner of Youths and Sports, from his former position as Special Adviser on Sports. Such was the move became one of the highlights of my administration and we made it the conscious efforts in ensuring that sports and youth development receive the utmost attention. This was evident in the landmark Gateway Games, Gateway Tertiary Institution Games (GATIG), the hosting of the FIFA Junior World Cup and many more.
“All these were possible through concerted efforts and initiatives of which Chief Bukola Olopade as the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development played a great part.
“It is therefore with great delight that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decided to appoint him as the Director General of the National Sports Commission.
“I am confident that he will right all the wrongs in our nation’s sports affairs and provide the needed leadership for Nigerians to compete in all competitions delightedly, bringing pride and victory to us all.”
In related development, the executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, congratulated the new Director General of the National Sports Commission on his appointment. And the perfect professional synergy planned out by President Bola Tinubu, to give Nigerian sports a solid rebirth.
Governor Diri added: “Let me congratulate my friend and brother, Mr. Bukola Olawale Olopade, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun State on his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, as Director-General, National Sports Commission.
“No doubt, Mr. Olopade and the Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC) Mr. Shehu Dikko, are both seasoned sports administrators in the country and these two appointments should signal a rebirth and revival of sports development across the country.
“I encourage the duo to work closely with various State Governments in the discovery of young talents, nurture them and make right investments to prepare them for future national and international competitions.
“Indeed, this country is blessed with talents in different sports.
“I wish both Mr. Dikko and Mr. Olopade, the best in this task of returning Nigeria’s sports to the glory days.”
