Delta 2022: Niger government promises huge reward for athletes

Niger state government has promised handsome reward for athletes representing the state at the 21st edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF), holding in Asaba, Delta state capital between November 28 to 12 December 12, 2022.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Yusuf Suleiman, made the disclosure while addressing the athletes at the end of an open camping set up by the ministry.

He confirmed that all the promises made to the athletes for the camping exercise had been fulfilled including payment of allowances.

The Commissioner appreciated the athletes for their commitment during the week-long camping programme.

He urged the athletes to be good ambassadors and make the state the proud.

He assured that reward awaits any team or individual that win medal for the state.

He said, “I am not going to make any commitment but I assure you that you will be rewarded handsomely for any medal you get for the state. So, I urge you to do it for yourself and for the state.”

Hon Suleiman also informed the athletes that all preparation for their comfortability both on their way to Asaba and when they arrive had been adequately made.

He equally informed them that 50 percent of their allowances will be paid to them before their departure and the remaining 50 percent will be paid to them on day six of the festival, with corresponding bonuses as they progress in their respective events.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Comrade Yunusa D. Tanimu, charged the state athletes to aim for gold in their respective events and promised that any athlete or team that makes the state proud will be highly appreciated.

Responding on behalf of the athletes, Femi Tunji, appreciated the Commissioner and his management team for fulfilling their promises for the camping programme and promised that they will reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that they return home with medals for the state.
