Delta police nab suspected robber hiding pistol in bread

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a suspected armed robber, Stanley Chibuike, who allegedly hid a pistol inside a loaf of bread.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Asaba, the state capital.

He explained, “On November 6, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Delta State Command, conducting a routine stop-and-search at Koka Roundabout, Asaba, intercepted a young man whose suspicious behaviour prompted a thorough search.”

“In the course of the search, a fabricated Beretta pistol was discovered carefully concealed inside a loaf of bread. The suspect, later identified as Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, 24, was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

“The recovered weapon has been secured as an exhibit, while an investigation is ongoing to ascertain his possible connection with incidents of armed robbery and kidnapping within the Asaba metropolis and adjoining communities”

According to Edafe, the Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, describing the discovery as proof of the Command’s sustained intelligence-driven operations.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting criminals, regardless of their methods, while urging residents to stay vigilant and provide credible tips, assuring that all information shared would be treated confidentially.

In a separate incident, PUNCH Online reported on November 1 that the Delta State Police Command intercepted a Hiace bus at a toll gate in Asaba, discovering it was carrying a large quantity of controlled substances, including codeine and tramadol.
