Dennerby: I Love My Players Never-say-die Spirit

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has heaped praises on his players for showing a high level of fighting efforts and never-die-spirit, which he believes helped them beat Cote d’Ivoire in the final of this year’s West African Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Cup of Nation last weekend.

The Falcons were trailing the hosts deep into added time of the second half, but USA-based revelation, Uchenna Kanu popped up with a very late equaliser, that took the game into penalties, which Nigeria won 5-4, much to Dennerby’s delight.

Even as he turns his attention to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which begins June 7 in France, Dennerby is reflecting on his side’s heroic conquest of the regional competition in Cote d’Ivoire, which he says is a massive boost to their aspirations at the Female Mundial.

The Swedish soccer tactician admitted he was truly he was exited and satisfied with his players’ efforts that procured their comeback win against Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday.

He noted further that the players keep showing that they are learning new ideas under his tutelage, all of which he enthused will come to bear on their chances of going one better than a quarter-final spot at this year’s Women’s World Cup.

Dennerby stated: “Scoring the equalizer in the very last minute of time-added showed the never-say-die, never-give-up attitude of the Falcons.

“I really, really love that. It means that this team has learnt to fight till the last second of every game and that spirit will be massive for us at the World Cup

“I want to thank the NFF for their huge support to the team since the team qualified for the World Cup.

“With all the friendly tournaments and campings that we have had. We will go to France to give our best effort.”
