Dennerby Task Falcons’ Attackers On Scoring Goals

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has admitted that his strikers will have to redouble their efforts and get better in front of goal in order to excel at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Dennerby stated as much in the wake of his team’s seventh place finish at the Cyprus International Women’s Cup, where he believes they could have gained better results had his attackers converted all chances that came their way.

He was particular about their match against Slovakia, in which his side scored their highest number of goals in all four games they played, as they won 4-3, but Dennerby reckons they could have got more.

He lamented over their opening day 4-1 loss to Austria and 1-0 defeat by Belgium in their third game, but is happy that they eventually ended the competition with a heart-lifting 3-0 spanking of Thailand, though it was only in a classification match.

The Swedish tactician has now taken his mind back to the run of play by the Falcons in all four matches they played during the annual invitational competition, with a verdict that they need to do better if they are to hold their own at the upcoming Female Mundial in France.

They are pooled against the hosts, against France as well as Norway and North Korea in Group A at this summer’s competition, ahead of which Dennerby says his players must learn to put away the chances they get.

Dennerby stated: “We lost to Austria but we recovered well against Slovakia, and if we had put away the chances we had after scoring our third goal, there would have been no way for them to equalise.”
