Dennerby Works On Set Pieces In Training

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has disclosed that he is working out how his side can defend against set-pieces from opponents during the FIFA Women’s World Cup, sequel to lapses noticed in that area during Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Norway.

Dennerby admitted it was a huge disappointment seeing his side give away to three goals in the first half of that encounter, with all coming via dead ball situations, but promised they will do better against South Korea on Wednesday in Grenoble, France.

Heading into the midweek cracker, against a side that lost their opening game 4-0 against hosts, France, Dennerby reckons that the Falcons need to win in order to stand any chance of qualifying for the next round as one of four best third placed teams.

The Falcons’ handler noted further during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that he and his assistants in the technical crew have observed where the team went wrong on Saturday in Reims, and believes they would be able to perfect their strategies ahead of Wednesday’s game.

With that in mind, the Swedish soccer tactician revealed that he has now arranged special drills for his wards, which will see them put up more effort in training and learn the right tactics that would help them to avoid repeating any of the errors they committed against Norway.

Dennerby stated: “We were disappointed on Saturday, but now we’ve been training on what we have to do in the next match.

“We saw where we went wrong against Norway, and we’re now working on making adequate corrections.

“We know we have top work on set-pieces, so that we will not be caught off guard again in the next match against Korea.

“We also know that our players got nervous after they conceded the first goal against Norway, that’s another issue we must guard against.”
