Dollar rain as Nigerian athletes receive bonuses

It was dollar rain as Nigerian athletes who did the nation proud at the just concluded Commonwealth Games received their bonuses. Nigeria’s Golden girl and current track sensation Tobi Amusan led the pack.

A breakdown of the largesse that can best be described as pleasant August good news at a time when economy is not smiling, indicate that Athletes who won gold medals received $5,000, silver medallist received $3,000, while bronze medallists got $2,000.

Athletes who represented Nigeria in the 4 x100 relay received $15,000 for the team. Women’s 100m Hurdles Champion, Tobi Amusan, 200m Silver medallist and long jump winner, Ese Brume among and indeed others who fired Nigeria to the podium at the event have been household names and have been applauded by Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

The Coaches and officials also got rewarded by the Sports ministry for their roles in Team Nigeria’s success. Nigeria finished 7th on the table with 12 Gold 9 Silver and 14 Bronze medals while emerging the best in Africa.
