Delta state female and male basketball teams did a double against arc rivals cross river, as they picked valuable victories in their opening matches in the ongoing NDSF, taking place in Uyo.
Delta female team set the pace as they came from six points deficit to claim victory by 44 – 39 points in a game that was grossly contested.
Speaking after the encounter, Delta coach Joe Bozimo said they fought tirelessly for their victory and that this victory would further boost their morale going into their game.
“It’s was a well-deserved victory for my girls. We had to come from behind to win the game, which makes it more special for us, we will continue to work hard in every game and I know we will achieve greatness in this festival, at the end of the day”, he said.
Meanwhile, the male team of team Delta, were heavily boosted with the victory of their female team, which propelled the male team to a right frame of mind to consolidate the day with victory too.
Like their female team, the male team came from eleven points deficit to triumph over hard fighting cross river boys, 55 – 51 to crown the double delight for team Delta.
Speaking after the tough encounter, Delta basketball coach Broadricks Peter said it was a well-deserved victory.
“When we were down by eleven points, I was still confident, we can win the game, I told my boys its not over, we changed our tactics and it worked for us, we look forward to our next game” he said.
Team Delta started their campaign in the basketball event in the ongoin Niger Delta Sports Festival, with victories in the male and female clash against Cross River, at the Dakada skill acquisition centre, Uyo.
