The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has applauded the exceptional performance of Team Edo athletes who represented Nigeria at the 22nd Women Youth Africa Nations Championship in Algeria.
In a statement signed by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Hon. Enabulele praised the athletes for their remarkable achievements and for flying both Nigeria’s and Edo State’s flags high on the continental stage.
“I am particularly amazed by Korie Ngozi’s outstanding display, which earned her the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the competition,” he said.
He also commended other Edo-born athletes, Okonkwo Sharon and Duru Sharon, describing their impressive showings as proof of the state’s rising dominance in youth and grassroots sports.

“This feat is a clear reflection of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s unwavering commitment to grassroots sports development in Edo State. Our athletes keep proving the strength of Edo’s sports vision,” he added.

Hon. Enabulele expressed confidence in their future, noting that their performance has positioned the team for greater success at upcoming continental and global events. “These athletes have distinguished themselves at this championship. I’m optimistic their success will inspire even stronger performances at future competitions,” he said.
The Edo State Handball Coach, Mrs. Isede Evelyn, and Assistant Coach, Mrs. Susan Agumbuta, led the athletes on a courtesy visit to the Commission after returning from Algeria, where Nigeria finished fifth overall and qualified for the forthcoming Handball World Cup.
In a related development, Hon. Enabulele also received outstanding deaf athletes who excelled at the West African Deaf Athletics Championship in Abuja. The team was led by their coach, Dr. Sunny Aimufua.
