The Edo State Government has announced that it will commence enforcement of the Edo State Sanitation and Pollution Management Law from January 2026.
Governor Monday Okpebholo recently signed the legislation, which aims to promote a cleaner, greener, and safer environment across the state.
Speaking over the weekend in Benin City during an interactive session with journalists, Edo Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Nosa Adams, urged the media to support public awareness campaigns on the new law.
Adams stressed that the law would be strictly implemented and appealed for media collaboration in educating the public to ensure compliance and environmental sustainability in the state.

“The enforcement will start from January 2, 2026, to the extent that everyone will know there is a new law in town.
“We are embarking on enlightenment, we are embarking on advocacy, before we proceed to enforcement. Enforcement like never before. But in doing this, we need the press. So, let’s synergize to save our environment from further degradation.”
