EFA reassures Queiroz his job is safe ahead Morocco clash

Date:

The Egyptian Football Association has reassured coach Carlos Queiroz that his job is safe regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s AFCON 2021 quarterfinal clash against Morocco.

Queiroz’s side produced some modest displays in the group stage at AFCON but turned on the style in their last 16 game against Cote d’Ivoire on January 26 that The Pharaohs won 5-4 on post-match penalties after extra time.

EFA board member and two-time AFCON winner Mohamed Barakat said Queiroz will certainly be in charge of Egypt’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 CAF Zone, final stage playoff dates against Senegal in March.

“Queiroz will stay in his position regardless of the result against Morocco,” Barakat told an Egyptian TV show monitored by Ahram.

“He will lead Egypt’s national team during the game against Senegal [in March] in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers playoffs.

“We have been confident of Queiroz since he took the helm of the team.”

Queiroz took over as Egypt coach in October, 2021 from Hossam El-Badry who was fired after he won and drew The Pharaohs opening two Qatar 2022 group qualifiers.
