Emenike Launches ‘Project Promotion’ With Westerlo

New arrival at KV Westerlo of Belgium, Emmanuel Emenike (aka The Spartan) has set in motion what he calls ‘project promotion’ with the lower division outfit, as he aims to help them get back into the top-flight league at the end of this season.

Emenike is thinking big already and admitted he is quite happy to join the club that has a strong Nigerian connection, with several players from the country having donned the colours of the club that has for several years been running a football academy in Lagos, which is operated by former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Joseph Dosu.

After joining his 10th club, following of trials with the second-tier outfit, Emenike admitted he is keen on reviving his career looks to revive his career, as the 32-year-old well-travelled former Eagles striker has been without a club since the summer of 2018, following his release by Greek Super League giants, Olympiakos.

That marked a huge downturn of fortunes for Emenike, who started his career with Delta Force of Asaba, before moving to MP Black Aces and Cape Town of South Africa, as well as Karabükspor and Fenerbahçe of Turkey, Spartak Moscow of Russia, Al Ain of United Arab Emirates, West Ham United of England and Las Palmas of Spain.

He will now hope to hit the ground running with the club he trained with for two weeks before he was rewarded with a contract, as Westerlo are currently sitting pretty at second position in the Belgian second-tier league table with 13 points from six matches.

The top scorer and gold medalist at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa is now talking big once again, after being handed a contract by Westerlo, as he took his social media to reveal his relief and ambitions with the once-fabulous Belgian club.

Emenike stated in his post: “Delighted to be back. Thank you Westerlo for making me feel at home and welcome. Let’s get some wins and go for the title. Project promotion.”
