Enugu Rangers crash out of CAF Confederation Cup

There will be no Nigerian club in the knockout rounds of both the CAF Champions League as well as the Confederation Cup after Enugu Rangers crashed out of the second-tier continental club competition today in front of their own fans.

Rangers fell 1-0 to CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, who who won the group to join fellow Tunisians Etoile du Sahel in the quarterfinal of the Confederation Cup.

A 73rd minute goal by Nadhir Korichi gave CS Sfaxien victory in Enugu today, while Etoile pipped Salitas of Burkina Faso 1-0 at home in the other Group B tie.

Rangers thus finished third in Group B with five points.

Yesterday’s Nigeria’s representatives in the Champions League Lobi Stars also exited the competition despite beating ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 in Enugu.

Rangers International football club of Nigeria today lost 1 – 0 to the Club Sportif of Tunisia in CAF Confederation Cup 6th match of matchday 6 in Group stage.

Rangers created many scoring chances but could not convert any. Only one chance for Sfaxien was converted.

Rangers Coach Olugbenga Ogunbote said “luck wasn’t on the side of Rangers today. We did all we could do but our efforts couldn’t workout for us”.

Rangers ended her campaign on 3rd position where 2 teams are to qualify for the quarter final from Group B. CS Sfaxien of Tunisia ended 1st with 12 points while Étoile du Sahel of same Tunisia also qualified with 9 points leaving Rangers on the 3rd position with 5 points before Salitas of Burkina Faso with 4 points.

Rangers Will now concentrate on the Nigerian Professional Football League 2019 Season where they have backlog of matches.
