Enyimba FC of Aba have claimed the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title at the Super 6 play-off.
A performance that saw `The Peoples Elephant win their ninth league title after holding Rivers United to a 1-1 draw in their final game of the Championship at the Mobalaji Johnson Stadium on Sunday.
The Finidi George-tutored side won the league on superior goal difference after tying on nine points with Rivers and Remo Stars.
Interestingly, Enyimba drew three and won just two of their five games in the championship play-off, and it was good enough to emerge champions.
In the final game, Enyimba drew first blood in the 39th minute as Ekene Awazie dispatched a well-taken strike.
Rivers responded immediately after the halftime break, with Nyima Nwagua stabbing the ball into the net after a goalline scuffle.
The Peoples Elephant held on for a famous draw that extended their achievement as the most successful club in the Nigerian league.
The club will fly Nigeria’s flag at the CAF Champions League next season alongside Remo Stars, who finished second.
