EPL clubs demand Man City’s relegation

Date:

Many Premier League teams have called for Manchester City to be kicked out of the division if they are found guilty of breaking rules over nine seasons, according to Sky Sports.

City, in reaction to the over 100 alleged breaches of financial rules from 2009-2010 and 2017-2018, on Monday said they were “surprised” to have been charged by the Premier League.

The most severe punishment would be for City to be expelled from the top flight.

There is a feeling that stripping City of their titles retrospectively would be meaningless and cause confusion.

But a fine is also not likely to have much of an effect.

The clubs who had been pressing hardest for action until Monday were some other members of the so-called ‘big six’ – which includes Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Premier League clubs, however, do not want to get involved in the process, which is being handled by an independent commission.
