EPL: Don’t join Man United, it’s a backward step – Babel warns Holland World Cup star

Date:

Former Premier League star, Ryan Babel has warned Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong against joining Manchester United.

According to the former Liverpool man, De Jong would be taking a ‘step down’ in his career by going to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are still very much interested in landing the midfielder, despite the player turning them down after a summer deal was agreed last summer.

De Jong is currently leading The Netherlands midfield in Qatar where the Dutch has made it to the quarter final of the 2022 World Cup.

But Babel, a former Reds winger has warned his compatriot against joining Erik ten Hag’s side when the transfer window reopens in January.

“For Frenkie I would not recommend United in all honesty,” Babel told MyBettingSites.

“At least not today. He needs a team that wants to play football, proper football on the ground.

“So for Frankie personally, if you go from Barcelona to United, I think that is a step down.”
