EPL: George Boateng quits Aston Villa coaching post

Ghana second assistant coach George Boateng has left his post at Aston Villa.

Boateng was working as the club’s Under-23 coach, but is now moving on as he wants to focus on his work with the Black Stars instead.

The 2022 World Cup is this winter, and Boateng wants to ensure his country can put in a commendable showing for their fans.

“Leaving Aston Villa after 3 wonderful seasons was not an easy decision but having the opportunity to coach my country at the World Cup was too good to turn down,” Boateng wrote on Instagram.

“I have learned so much and I’m grateful for the time spent at this beautiful, amazing club. I want to thank the players, staff and fans for their wonderful support and I wish the club every success in the future.

“As for now, I will concentrate on my role as the Assistant Coach of Ghana ahead of the World Cup.”

The former Netherlands international has managed Kelantan F.C. in Malaysia and Blackburn Rovers U-13, along with Aston Villa’s Under-18s.
