Manchester City midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that manager Pep Guardiola was “mad” with him and Erling Haaland after their penalty gaffe almost cost them dearly against Leeds.
Gundogan had scored twice against the visitors in the first-half of the game on Saturday before the incident.
City were awarded a spot kick in the 84th minute and Haaland was expected to take it.
But instead, Haaland handed the ball over to Gundogan to allow his team-mate complete what would have been a first career hat-trick.
However, City’s captain on the day could only fire his penalty onto the post leaving Guardiola furious on the touchline. Rodrigo then scored for Leeds less than sixty seconds later.
“First he [Guardiola] showed to Erling that he was quite mad about that and then also he had a go at me.
“It is what it is at the end,” Gundogan told BBC MOTD.
