EPL: He’s being treated unfairly – Souness slams Man United over former world’s most expensive star

Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness, has accused Manchester United of treating their captain, Harry Maguire unfairly

The England international was dropped to the bench, with Erik ten Hag preferring Lisandro Martinez teaming up with Raphael Varane against Liverpool and Southampton.

Souness thinks Maguire has been hard done by, particularly because of his £80m move from Leicester in 2019 being a world record for the position.

“I think he’s been treated unfairly,” Souness said on talkSPORT. “I quite like Maguire and I think there’s more to come from him.

“I think there was some momentum gathered against him that was quite unfair.

“He was the most expensive defender in the world to straight away he was targeted, so his first mistake ‘the most expensive defender in the world shouldn’t make this mistake’.”
