Liverpool legend, Jamie Redknapp has told Chelsea they will need a striker-like Didier Drogba to be able to compete and challenge for the Premier League title.
He said the Blues may not be able to succeed until they find a clinical finisher like the retired Ivorian or another former Chelsea striker, Costa.
The Blues drew 1-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday night, failing to convert numerous chances to win the game.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have struggled in front of goal with £100 million signing Romelu Lukaku in a rut since joining from Inter Milan last summer.
And former Liverpool midfielder, Redknapp feels the Blues’ inability to get the winner against United displayed how the west Londoners’ desperately need an in-form striker.
He said on Sky Sports: “I think Thomas Tuchel will think how have they not won this game. The amount of opportunities they had on the right side.
“They felt Romelu Lukaku was going to be the missing piece to the jigsaw, the man who would get them 20, 25 goals to elevate them to the title race and it hasn’t worked out.
“Werner’s not a natural finisher. Havertz, I love his movement. But they haven’t got that goalscorer like a Drogba or Costa who’s going to get you the 20 or 25 goals that you are going to need to win the title and that’s really where they have come up short.”
Didier Drogba scored 100 league goals for Chelsea between 2004 and 2012, leading the club to three title triumphs.
