Manchester United have thanked Arsenal fans after the Gunners supporters showed support for their star forward Cristiano Ronaldo following the tragic death of his baby son.
Manchester United were defeated 3-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, and Ronaldo returned to action after missing their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool after the striker and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the death of their baby son.
United and Liverpool fans came together at Anfield on Tuesday as they held a minute of applause to show support for Ronaldo and his partner.
Arsenal’s support rose as one in the seventh minute, Ronaldo’s shirt number, to show their support.
United acknowledged the gesture on Twitter with a message which read: “A classy gesture from Arsenal supporters, with applause for @Cristiano in the seventh minute.”
The Gunners went two goals up, thanks to Nuno Tavares and Bukayo Saka, before Cristiano Ronaldo made it 2-1.
Ronaldo thought he had made it 2-2 in the second half but his overhead kick was ruled out for offside.
Granit Xhaka then drilled in a late effort to make it 3-1 after Bruno Fernandes missed a golden opportunity from the spot kick.
