EPL: Taiwo Awoniyi recuperating for Nottingham Forest early return

Date:

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is back in training with the first team and Steve Cooper can’t get him back on the pitch quickly enough. The Nigerian hasn’t played since January when he scored the winner against Southampton.

The 25-year-old was just getting into his stride when injury cruelly struck him. Awoniyi was being utilised on the left-hand side by Cooper and it was a role that saw him wreak havoc.

Awoniyi was a marquee signing by the Reds in the summer transfer window. He cost the club £17 million from Union Berlin and has slowly but surely adapted to the Premier League.

The player scored 18 goals in the Bundesliga last season. That saw many Premier League clubs hold an interest in signing him but Forest were fortunate enough to win the race to sign him.

Awoniyi has been sorely missed during his absence. Forest are currently six games minus a victory and the signing of Chris Wood to fill the void left by the Nigerian hasn’t worked out.

Now, the light is at the end of the tunnel. The striker has been spotted in training with the international stage taking centre stage and he looks to be edging towards full fitness.

Forest striker Awoniyi back in training and Cooper needs him
The Reds are desperate for another option to be added to their forward options. Awoniyi was in brilliant form when injury struck and the hope will be that he can pick up where he left off.

The striker is a unit of a player. He was causing chaos when he was struck down with an injury and his return could help Forest remain as a Premier League club next season.

Forest need something and any sort of lift at the moment would help raise morale in the stands. With Wolves to come next, Cooper would dearly love to be able to call upon Awoniyi.
