Manchester United striker, Anthony Martial has spoken highly of former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.
“I had a great relationship with Louis van Gaal the first season,” Martial told France Football.
Martial, who joined Manchester United in 2015 with high expectations, had an impressive debut season at Old Trafford under Van Gaal.
“I love to learn and when a gentleman like him takes the time to make me watch videos of my matches in his office to explain things to me, that’s the best,” he said.
According to him, the Dutchman gave him the opportunity to express himself both on and off the pitch, unlike other managers such as Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“Once I had scored twice, and he made me watch the video to set me on fire. I told him that I scored twice, so what’s the problem?
“He wanted to talk to me about running angles and movement zones. I told him that I understood and that he liked my whole character. With Mourinho, it had nothing to do.”
Van Gaal was sacked as manager of Manchester United in May 2016 despite leading the Red Devils to an FA Cup 2-1 final win over Crystal Palace.
