Date:

Nigeria-eligible midfielder Leslie Ugochukwu has confirmed that he wants to follow in the footsteps of former Nigeria Super Eagles player John Mikel Obi at Chelsea.

Ugochukwu who is a cousin to former Nigerian defender Onyekachi Apam joined the London club this summer from the French Ligue One club Rennes.

While speaking to the club media, the central midfielder emphasized the trophies won by Mikel and how he became a legend of the club.

“Just look at all the trophies he (Mikel) has won and the legends that have passed through the club.

They say I can become a great midfielder like him if I put in the work and everything goes well.

I want to be like but it’s up to me to prove that I can have my place in the long term.

I wanted to take this step. When a club of this stature comes in for you, it’s very difficult to refuse”, he said.

Despite being born in France, Ugochukwu is still eligible to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles in future engagements.
