EPL: What UK government sanctions mean for Russian billionaire, Abramovich

Date:

The implications of the UK government sanction against Roman Abramovich, Chelsea owner has been explained.

SportsDayOnline.com reports that the Russian billionaire was finally sanctioned by the British government on Thursday.

Abramovich had his assets frozen and has been prohibited from making transactions with UK individuals and businesses.

However, according to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, the sanctions on Abramovich means the 55-year-old will not be allowed to do any business in the UK and also not allowed to make money.

Solhekol added that Abramovich would not be allowed to sell Chelsea, adding that the Blues is effectively out of his control.

Speaking on The FOOTBALL SHOW, Solhekol said: “What it [sanctions] means for him [Abramovich] is that he is not allowed to do any business in the UK whatsoever.

“He is not allowed to make any money in the UK, so obviously, he would not be able to sell Chelsea.”

He added, “What it means for Abramovich is that Chelsea is effectively out of his control now.”

“He is operating on a special license from the government and that license is going to be continuing review.”
