EPL: Why we lost 1-0 to Arsenal – Chelsea coach, Graham Potter

Date:

Chelsea coach, Graham Potter, has explained why his team lost 1-0 against Arsenal in Sunday’s Premier League derby.

Potter watched as Arsenal defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, thanks to a second-half goal from Gabriel Magalhaes.

Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Potter said that Arsenal defeated the Blues because his players did not function as fluently as they could during the encounter.

According to the Englishman, Chelsea lacked quality and were beaten by the better team, Arsenal, adding that the Gunners deserved to win.

“We have to look at where the two teams are at, Arsenal are in a good moment and have worked together for a long time and we’re in a different phase. We tried to make it more of a London derby,” Potter said.

“We lacked quality, but the effort was there and we were beaten by the better team today. It was not a great goal from our perspective, we defended those moments quite well.

“We didn’t function as fluently as we would like. There are always two teams on the pitch, and you have to understand where they’re from and look at where they are at. The boys gave everything. We got into a few situations in the box, but we missed that last little bit.

“Overall, Arsenal deserved to win. The goal is disappointing and over the course of the game, we don’t have too many complaints about the result.”
