Aston Villa legend, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has said that Chelsea were lucky to have benefited from the referee’s poor decision against West Ham on Saturday.
According to him, it was getting away with murder for goalkeeper, Édouard Mendy after VAR ruled out West Ham’s last minute equaliser.
It was a day of poor officiating by Premier League referees across England with Virgil van Dijk’s unpunished challenge for stamping on Everton’s Onana, Newcastle’s disallowed goal versus Crystal Palace and West Ham’s equaliser being chalked off.
The referee disallowed Maxwell Cornet’s late effort after Bowen’s one on one with Mendy was deemed as a foul on the Chelsea keeper.
Agbonlahor said that among all the mistakes, it was West Ham’s ruled out goal against Chelsea that stood out as the worst decision of the day.
“The biggest thing for me today that stood out was Mendy getting away with murder for that goal,” he said on talkSPORT.
“Bowen has nowhere to go. It’s a foul from Mendy on Bowen for me, it was a goal for West Ham, they were robbed.
“Chelsea, for me, were very lucky to win today,” he said.
