Everton confirm signing of Idrissa Gana Gueye

Date:

Everton have confirmed the midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has rejoined the club from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee in the region of £2million.

The midfielder has penned a two-year deal with Frank Lampard’s side, sealing a return to the club he left for the Parisian outfit in 2019.

Having already made 108 appearances for the Toffees, Gueye will be a familiar face in Merseyside when he joins up with the squad this week.

The midfielder first joined the Toffees from Aston Villa in 2016, before spending three years at Everton. In 2019 he completed a move to PSG, where he won two Ligue 1 titles and two Coupes de France.

During his time away, the 32-year-old was also part of the Senegal squad that won the African Cup of Nations 2021.

Gueye’s return marks Everton’s seventh foray into the transfer market following the arrivals of James Tarkowski, Rúben Vinagre and Conor Coady, midfielder Amadou Onana, Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay.

With one midfielder coming in, it looks as though another may be heading out – with Andre Gomes close to sealing a move to Ligue 1 side Lille.

The 29 year-old has played 100 games for Everton since first arriving on loan from Barcelona in 2018. He signed the following year for £22m.

Gomes has fallen out of favour under Frank Lampard, though, and is yet to appear for the club this season after making just 14 league appearances last year.
