Football website, Football Insider says Everton have opened preliminary new contract talks with Alex Iwobi.
The Nigerian scored his first goal of the Premier League campaign against Manchester United Sunday night and was voted the best Everton man on the pitch despite the loss to the visitors at Goodison Park.
Iwobi has been thriving in a new central midfield role so far this season and has started and completed all nine of Everton’s Premier League matches.
The Toffees, according t Football Insider are keen to tie the Nigerian down to a long-term as a reward for his performances. His current deal – worth around £90,000-a-week – runs until the summer of 2024.
He has already provided three assists for his teammates this term, one more than he achieved in 28 league appearances last season.
Iwobi joined Everton from Arsenal in the summer of 2019 and has now made 107 appearances for the club in all competitions.
He has scored eight goals for the Toffees so far this term with five coming in the Premier League.
Everton sit 12th in the Premier League following their loss to Man United.
Frank Lampard’s side are next in action against Tottenham on Saturday (15 October).
