It was another epoch making event in the squared ropes sports on Saturday as the Yucateco Boxing league staged its week-14 hostilities in Lagos. The epic fifty (50) bouts fight card which attracted over five thousand boxing spectators was held at the Yucateco Arena in Ikorodu.
The long night of rumble packed with the best blend of music and on the spot commentary, throw the crowd into frenzy in the male 51kg contest as Samuel Dahunsi of Ogbas Families boxing club brought to a close the unbeaten run of fans favorite Sultan Adekonya of ESPITA bc with a 3-2 triumph. Nicknamed “World Best” last season’s Most Valuable Boxer (MVB) and the current Yucateco Pan-African title holder in the 63.5kg Abdulwahab Abdulrahman of ESPITA’s bc showed class as he secured a 4-1 victory against Quadri Ilori of OGBAS Families boxing club.
The women’s contest also produced plenty of excitement as the reigning Yucateco Pan-African 63kg champion Precious Anine brought the full weight of her continental experience as she dazzles the crowd in her 4-1 victory against Ikimot Jinadu of AY RANO boxing club. Precious has this to say on her victory.
” i am happy to have won this fight, Ikimot is also a good boxing but she’s not at my level yet, the league has truly helped to improve my techniques and punching power and i don’t see anyone in my weight category who can trouble me at this point”.

Anine further stated that her focus is now on the 2025 National Sports Festival where she hopes to represent Edo state.
” the Yucateco boxing league has really helped us to prepare ahead of the Sports Festival, i am in a very good shape now and truly confident of a splendid outing at the games in Ogun State in January”.
The Chief Executive Officer CEO Yucateco boxing promotions Omonlei Yakubu Imadu told reporters on the sideline of Saturday’s event that the outfit is breeding a new generation of boxing champions for Nigeria.
” i am impressed with the level of growth i have seen in these pugilists since the very first season of the league, what we have now are several finished product waiting to blossom at the global stage, i hope they remain focused on the goals ahead”.
A total of 358 bouts have been completed in season 2 of the Yucateco boxing league. Twelve accredited boxing clubs are vying for the grand prize of N50 Million naira.
