FA Cup: Enyimba FC knock Rivers United out to setup Plateau United Round of 32 clash

Enyimba International FC have knocked Rivers United FC out of the 2023 Nigeria Federation Cup in the Round of 64.

The star fixture of the Round of 64 finally took place on Thursday May 4 after suffering two rescheduling due to Rivers United`s continental engagements.

In the match decided at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Enyimba International FC emerged victorious 5-4 on penalties after a goalless score in regulation time.

Rivers United FC Coach Stanley Eguma started with bulk of his first-team players while Coach Finidi George of Enyimba FC opted to ring changes with most regulars left out with eye on this weekends NPFL game in Aba.

A fairly even game saw both teams toil in vain search for goals in regulation time.

It was Rivers United FC who dominated possession but were let down by their frailty in attack. Enyimba FC on their part were more creative in the final third and so goalkeeper Victor Sochima was called into action to deny Mboama, Eze and substitute Abubakar.

Following a 0-0 regulation time score, Referee Akaniyene Udoette signaled for penalty shootout to decide the winner of the Federation cup round of 64 game.

Rivers United midfielder Farouk Mohammed missed his kick, the only failed attempt of 10-kicks as Enyimba FC converted all five kicks to win 5-4.

Enyimba International will now face Plateau United in the round of 32 at a yet to be announced venue.
