Falcons Have Great Winning Mentality – Fresh

Players in Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons have been praised for the winning mentality they harbored, which helped them emerge victorious at the recent West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Cup of Nations in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

This is the lofty verdict of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Fresh, who said he was impressed seeing the Falcons storm from a goal down to beat the host country.

‘Fresh’ stated as much while reflecting on Saturday’s match in Abidjan, in which Uchenna Kanu scored a brilliant equaliser deep into added time of the second half, to force a 1-1 draw and Nigeria then won the final 5-4 on penalties.

It was a better ending to the Falcons’ third place finish at same venue in last year’s edition of the regional competition, and Fresh is ecstatic that Thomas Dennerby’s side showed tremendous winning mentality to eke out victory from the brink of defeat in the pulsating final.

While congratulating Dennerby and hios players for the heroic triumph, the NFF technical buff went on to reveal his committee’s plans for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, where he believes the Falcons’ latest success will be a huge boost to their aspirations.

He took to social media to forecast better days ahead of the Falcons, especially as they settle down at their final training base in Austria, before heading out to France 2019, where they will battle the host country as well as Norway and Korea Republic in Group A.

Fresh stated: “Congratulations to Thomas Dennerby and @NGSuper Falcons for emerging as WAFU Women’s Cup champions at the weekend.

“It’s indeed a great time to be champions ahead of 2019 @FIFAWWC in France. @thenff Technical Committee is proud of the girls amazing performance in Abidjan.

“The Technical & Development Committee has shifted focus immediately to the final phase of preparations in Austria, we believe the Coach and his players will storm France and surprise the world.

“The winning mentality of this team is something to be hopeful about in France.”
