Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has extended her contract with Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad Ladies until 2027.
Al-Ittihad Ladies officially announced the contract extension on their social media platforms yesterday, sharing the exciting news with their supporters and followers.
Plumptre has been making waves since joining Al Ittihad in 2023. After her contract expired with Women Super League side Leicester, she made the move to the Saudi Arabian club and has since become a regular starter, delivering impressive performances that have earned her the captain’s armband.
Her contract extension with Al Ittihad is a testament to her hard work and dedication. The club’s CEO, Domingos Oliveira also praised Plumptre, stating that renewing her contract was part of the club’s strategy to retain top talent and build a strong team for the future.
”The club’s CEO, Mr. Domingos Oliveira, confirmed that renewing the player’s contract comes within the club’s strategy to retain distinguished players who have the desire to develop and serve the team better in the future, wishing Plumptre and her teammates success and to make the fans happy by achieving accomplishments,” the club posted on their official X page.
Despite Al Ittihad’s seventh-place position in the Saudi Women’s Premier League, Plumptre has been a shining star, delivering stellar performances this season.
Her defensive prowess has also been impressive, showcasing her reliability at the back. Additionally, she has contributed to the team’s attack, scoring two goals and providing one assist, highlighting her versatility and value to the team.
Born in England, the talented defender played for the country at the youth level before switching to represent Nigeria, thanks to her paternal grandfather’s heritage. She’s now a senior international for the Super Falcons, playing in the 2022 WAFCON and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Plumptre also played a key role in securing the Super Falcons’ first Olympic qualification since 2008. However, a devastating injury sustained in March while playing for her club Al Ittihad forced her absence from the final squad.
