University of Tennessee freshman, Favour Ashe on Saturday ran a huge 10.04s personal best at the SEC Outdoor Championships to win the 100m event and in the process becomes the joint 15th Nigerian with Innocent Asonze in the Nigerian all-time list.

Ashe has been having a phenomenal season since he left the MOC track and club on track scholarship last year to the University Tennessee and was denied a huge 9.79s personal best by an illegal tailwind (+3.0m/s) last month at the LSU invitational.

His mark is also the fifth-fastest all-conditions time in NCAA history.

Ashe’s new personal best setting performance has catapaulted him to joint first in the Nigerian top list for the year with 2019 African Games champion, Raymond Ekevwo who ran 10.04s last month at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium in Waco, Texas.

In only his first season in the collegiate circuit, Ashe has won a medal in the indoor championships, claiming a bronze medal in the 60m event held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Nigerian in the process set the Tennessee Freshman Record at 6.51s and was named SEC Freshman of the Week twice during the indoor season.

Outdoors, the 19 year old has continued to wax stronger and just improved his 100m personal best to 10.04s from the 10.10s he ran last month at the War Eagle Invitational at the Hutsell-Rosen Track in Auburn, Alabama.

Ashe was also named SEC Men’s Co-Runner of the Week early this month and looks a cast iron certainty to break 10 seconds in the event this year.
