Federal Government Postpones 7th Edition Of National Youth Games

The 7th Edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) earlier scheduled to hold in Asaba, the Delta State Capital from February 8-18, 2023 has been postponed.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar stated that the postponement is due to logistics and time constraints, especially, taking cognisance of the commencement of the General Elections slated for February 25, 2023

While regretting all the inconveniences the postponement might cause its stakeholders, Alhaji Ismaila assured that a new date for the Games will be announced after the elections.

The National Youth Games has since inception become a veritable ground for harvesting the huge talents that abound within the country.

Many of the discovered athletes have been nurtured to elite level by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development where several of them have been excelling at the international stage by posting podium performances for the country.

The Games is also used to promote National Unity; curb age cheating in Sports and Youth restiveness as well as establish a standard programme for athletes’ succession, amongst others.
Delta state which hosted the 21st national Festival last December indicated its interest to host the 7th National Youth Games at the Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State.
