Femi Kuti To Dazzle AFCON 2019 Opening Ceremony

Nigerian musician, Femi Kuti will perform live at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations this Friday, as the 32nd edition of the continental soccer showpiece begins with aplomb in Cairo, Egypt.

The Afro-beat prince, whose full names are Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti, is a four-time Grammy Awards nominee will perform in English in the Cairo Stadium, while Egyptian singer, Hakim will sing in Arabic and and Ivory Coast’s Dobet Gnahore will perform in French.

The 57-year-old Femi. who started singing in his father’s band, Egypt 80 when he was just 15, now has ten records and collaborated with popular international pop stars like Common, Mos Def, D’Angelo and others.

Femi, who also performed in several other top sports events like the Glo-CAF Awards, is expected to put into his live performance on Friday his hit songs like, Bang, Bang, Bang and Jaiye Jaiye, featuring WizKid.

It will be another epoch-making outing for ‘The Prince of Afro-beat,’ who also performed at the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on June 11, 2010.

Femi is the eldest son to Afro-beat pioneer, Fela, and a grandchild to political campaigner, women’s rights activist and nationalist, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, who was the first female to drive a car in Nigeria.
