The Federal Government has begun evacuating willing Nigerians from Iran, escorting them safely across the border into Armenia amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the development in a post on her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.
She said officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran were coordinating the movement of citizens who opted to leave the country, ensuring their safe passage into Armenia.

“The willing Nigerians in Iran are being safely escorted across the Armenia border by officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, ensuring smooth and secure passage for those wishing to leave,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
She added that no Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the current tensions, noting that embassy officials remain stationed at the border to receive and assist evacuees.
The evacuation, carried out in collaboration with Armenian authorities, forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to safeguard Nigerians abroad during emergencies. It also reflects the government’s continued monitoring of developments in the Middle East and its commitment to the welfare of citizens overseas.
