The Federal Government has suspended four senior officers of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) due to infractions and misdemeanors related to the case of Mr. Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, as well as other issues within various correctional facilities.
This action comes in response to a viral video circulating on social media, which alleged misconduct by NCoS officers concerning Bobrisky.
The Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Wednesday ordered investigation into the matter and constituted a panel headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani to conduct the investigation.
Acting under the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, the government said on Thursday that it suspended forthwith two Senior Officers directly connected with the case of Bobrisky.
In a statement by the Board’s Secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, two other officers were suspended for similar misdemeanours in different prison facilities.

The affected officers are Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) Kiri-kiri, Lagos State and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
The Board also suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.
In another related development, the Board has also suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate, Ahmed said.
“The suspension of these Officers is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded,” Ahmed further said.
