FIFA ‘concerned’ by ‘tragic, worrying’ situation in Ukraine

Fifa president Gianni Infantino said he was “concerned” by “the tragic and worrying” situation, after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Thursday.

“I was shocked by what I saw. I am worried and concerned by this situation. Fifa condemns the use of force,” said Infantino at a press conference.

Russia is due to host a 2022 World Cup play-off with Poland on March 24 and if victorious another on 29 March against the winners of the Czech Republic and Sweden — although those federations have demanded the matches be moved.
